To make art I must first create a deep emotion or love then destroy it. I use this mantra for both my inspiration and way of working I chose my subjects based upon things that have affected me seriously in life; deep traumatic experiences including the loss of another person through death, the destruction of a relationship, or the loss of the self. I create artworks in response to these events as a way to reflect and channel my energy into something I am passionate aiming to make something productive out of something that has been destructive.
I use a tableaux format as a way to tell a dramatic and theatrical story. The dramatization of my work is meant to act as a trigger for emotional response. I use materials that bring along certain connotations;. time depicted through the dryness and breaking of plaster, the tactile use of materials such as cloth and iron chain, . I also use found objects as a way to bring my sculptural narratives into a real world frame of mind.
This specific piece is inspired by The Lovesong of J. Alfred Prufrock a poem by T.S. Elliot.
