What is a SMP in Art History?

The St. Mary's Project in Art History is a year-long, independent and sustained research, curatorial and/or creative endeavor individually supervised by faculty and presented publicly at year’s end.  Art history SMPs focus on a diverse range of topics and methodologies. Students are encouraged to pursue both traditional art historical research and interdisciplinary perspectives, combining art history with other academic interests. Although different in format and length, all Art History SMPs incorporate independent research, topic development, resource literacy, successful argumentation, writing proficiency, and integrated critical synthesis.
