Abstract: The purpose of this research paper is to dissect the parties and their roles involved in the making of artist products. Artist products are objects designed or featuring imagery by an artist, are produced in multiples by an external manufacturer, and are commercially retailed by art galleries and museum stores. The development of the artist product is often funded and overseen by a commissioner. This paper focuses on two artist products made in collaboration with contemporary artist Kara Walker as case studies for the examination of the artist product.
